Your Best Shot
This is a new feature of elkhornslough.org - a weekly photo contest.

3/13/06: This week, Afternoon Egrets by Robert Shaffer. This shot was taken in the late afternoon from Elkhorn Road at Hudson Landing. According to Shaffer, "A group of a dozen snowy egrets were so engaged that they ignored my presence only 30 feet away.  I was able to enjoy their interactions and shoot away until I had my fill."

This shot was captured with a Nikon D70 (digital SLR) with 75-300mm AF lens, hand held.

Robert is an amateur photographer and it was the slough that inspired him to purchase a camera last year.  He's a family man and consulting structural engineer who drives Elkhorn Road 5 days a week to his office, but he says, "to call my drive a commute would be like calling Yosemite a campground."
