Checklist of the Birds
of Elkhorn Slough

Elkhorn slough supports 346 species of resident and migratory birds. This newly updated checklist presents information on their seasonal abundance and covers Elkhorn Slough, Moro Cojo, McClusky Sloughs, adjacent marshlands, uplands, beaches, and near-shore birds seen from these beaches. Many thanks to Todd Newberry for helping us keep this checklist up to date.

The checklist spans four pages and shows the seasons in which each species is sighted here. For a printed bird checklist, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Elkhorn Slough Foundation, Attn: Bird Checklist, Box 267, Moss Landing, CA 95039.

The table below lists the main categories of bird species - click on a category to view that section of the checklist.

You may also download an Excel spreadsheet, created by Dennis H. Smith, that lists the species (but not the sighting frequencies) and includes URLs for further information about each species (.xls file, 297KB).
