The Elkhorn Slough Foundation
Working to Preserve Elkhorn Slough

The Elkhorn Slough Foundation is dedicated to the conservation of coastal wetlands in Elkhorn Slough and the Monterey Bay area and to promoting the wise use of our coastal resources through research, education, and the restoration and protection of habitat.

The Elkhorn Slough Watershed Conservation Plan highlights our land aquisition and conservation goals.

Since 1982, The Elkhorn Slough Foundation has worked behind the scenes to:

  • protect the land and waters of Elkhorn Slough by acquiring and managing critical conservation parcels
  • work with Department of Fish and Game to implement teacher training and school programs serving over 10,000 students per year
  • build a wheelchair access along the slough shore
  • restore vital oak woodland and marsh habitats
  • work with state and local partners to develop a full spectrum of interpretive and educational materials highlighting California’s premier coastal wetland.
  • provide support to the Department of Fish and Game and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve
  • manage a natural history bookstore at the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve's visitor center
