Weeding Season...

The past couple weeks we’ve shown you the pretty side of spring – wildflowers and bird eggs.
These pictures were taken by our land staff while they were dealing with the other side of spring – coping with weeds. We had the wettest April in years and, though no one has measured them, it looks like we’ve got the biggest weeds in years, too. Here’s all of our land staff at work in one way or another dealing with weeds.
Above, Ken Collins is using the hand mower at Moro Cojo Slough – because this two acre section is just too wet to mow with the tractor.
The next two are from John Kenney on the tractor, mowing a path for hikers to take on our Outreach Walk on May 21st. First, a view in front of the tractor, then a view looking behind.
And below , Kim Hayes is using the weed whacker around the ESF trailer at the Reserve – so she can cut just the weeds and not the native plants we’ve planted the past year or so.
