Take a walk with ESF
5/29/06

We schedule our spring walks in May because the odds of rain are very low. (See chart in our April 10th Field Notes.)  The first walk (pictured above) was one of those glorious spring days on the Central Coast – the perfect mixture of warm sun and cooling air.  Our Land Manager Kim Hayes guided 16 people to the ridge at the north end of the slough, where they got both a great view and a close up look at some of the rare Maritime Chaparral that crowns the ridges of the Elkhorn Highlands.

Over 100 people were signed up for our May 21st Outreach Walk – and most of them were new to ESF.  We were obviously thrilled at the turnout – or potential turnout.  Against all odds it not only rained that day, it rained a lot!.  Still 30 or so brave and hearty folk turned up for our walk and talk and most of them stayed to pick the wonderful Peruvian lilies!
