Fire in Long Valley Too Close for Comfort
7/10/06

On the afternoon of July 6th a brush fire, started from some garbage that burned out of control, burned 17 acres in the Long Valley area.

John Kenny, ESF Farmland Manager, was onsite during the early
stages of the fire and watched as the fire flared up and began to rage.

Helicopters flew over Cattail Swale to get buckets of water. The fire
was quickly contained by the CDF (California Department of Forestry and
Fire Protection) crew. More than 70 firefighting personnel fought the fire on the ground and from the air. Authorities said no structures were threatened and ESF's Long Valley Property remains in tact.

Photos were taken by John Haskins, ESNERR's Water Quality Scientist and other ESNERR staff.
