1890
– Claus Spreckles opens his new sugar-beet plant in Watsonville and builds a narrow guage railroad to Moss Landing and on to the Moro Cojo Ranch. The train carries beets to the factory and raw sugar to the pier to be shipped to his finishing plant in San Francisco. He also works with the Southern Pacific and carries grain, potatoes, apples, and dairy to the ships. The Pajaro Valley Consolidated Railroad always includes passenger facilities.
