At low tide, the mud of Elkhorn Slough can offer some surprising
visual treats. This "abstract
painting" was photographed from the boardwalk pier on
the walkway at the north end of Kirby Park (which, incidentally,
is wheelchair accessible). The colors in the mud are produced
by various species of bacteria as they break down organic matter
deposited in the marsh. |
