10/7/02: A group of about 30 Black-crowned Night Herons (Nycticorax nycticorax) have been hanging out in Cattail Swail for many weeks now. If you want to see them perched on the fallen tree on the north side of the water near the trail (as shown here), you have to approach very slowly and quietly or they'll quickly be off and roosting in the trees on the other side.
