High-stepping Curlew

10/14/02: A frequent sight at low tide, Long-billed Curlews (Numenius americanus) feed in the mudflats, using their long bills to probe burrows in the mud for crustaceans and worms. Even their feet can sink into the mud, making for an interesting gate.
