At the very north end of Elkhorn Slough, by the railroad bridge
and visible from Elkhorn Road, are these pier posts -- the last
remnants of what was once a thriving depot known as Hudson's
Landing. In the 1860s and '70s, small, steam-powered lighters
would load produce and passengers here and ferry them down to
the pier at Moss Landing, where they would be put aboard the sea-going
schooners that supplied the coast of California. |
