Views with a ’Shroom

photos by Greg Hofmann

1/13/03: When the winter rains come down, the fungi come up in all their wonderful shapes and colors - the oak understory in the slough watershed is a great place to go fungus hunting. Clockwise from upper left: a Bolete (Xerocomus sp.), then the notorious (and poisonous) Fly Amanita (Amanita muscaria), then a fine yellow specimen (another Amanita? – if you can ID this one or the Bolete, please let us know), and finally an unidentified mushroom that has been completely covered with a layer of white Hypomyces fungus.
