Redleg in the Rain

03/24/03: It was a rainy evening in March when this California Red-legged Frog (Rana aurora draytonii) put in an appearance. The Rookery Pond and Cattail Swale are two of several places around Elkhorn Slough that provide habitat for this threatened species. The Reserve staff actively manages the Rookery Pond for the benefit of Red-legged Frogs and to discourage their non-native comptetitors, Bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana) which eat their eggs.
