Photographer’s Day Book

June 25, 2003

OK, you've seen them before - White Pelicans feeding in the slough. But they're such cool birds I can't stop photographing them.

This Cliff Swallow chick has been playing hide-and-seek with me for a couple of weeks now - it never shows its face when I have the camera, and stands in the doorway when I don't. This is the best shot it's let me get so far.

This snowy is perched where the kingfisher was last week.

The California Wild Rose (Rosa californica) is in full bloom now. There is a large "hedgerow" of wild roses on the south side of the trail leading to Hummingbird Island.

You've seen the rookery before, but it's really starting to cook now – the many chicks are creating a din that's definitely worth hearing. If you want to see this photo BIG in a new window, click here.
