Brown Pelicans are not usually seen in numbers in the North Marsh. The water is too shallow for diving, so these birds are probably just loafing. The egrets, on the other hand, are all business.

The egrets have been hunting in Strawberry Lagoon, which, with its murky red-brown water, creates some nice photo ops. Note the trail of ripples.

Also at Strawberry (as noted elsewhere) are the delightful Red-necked Phalaropes.

Enough with the birds. Here is a small group of Lined Shore Crabs having a picnic by the footbridge.

Look – humans! In this case, volunteer Len Davis and researcher Valentine Hemmingway conduct a frog census at a freshwater pond near the rookery.
