9/8/03: A hive of yellowjackets has established itself next to the South Marsh Loop Trail, due south of the big barn. Yellowjackets are of the family Vespidae, subfamily Vespinae. Some build their papery nests above ground (as we have seen), while other species prefer subterranean digs.
