Above is a short "movie" of something I've seen only
in the lagoons of Elkhorn Slough: Brown Pelicans feeding in
shallow water. Instead of using their usual headlong dive into
the water from several meters up, when they find a school of
fish in shallow water they glide low and splash in horizontally.
Above they are hunting in the lagoons of the north marsh, and
below is more of the same a few minutes later. You can see the
birds in just about every aspect taking off, gliding,
splashing down, drawing their heads out of the water
somewhere in these photos.
