2/2/2004:
It's interesting to track the different species of birds that
make use of various parts of the slough through the year. In the
shallows of the Strawberry Lagoon area (at Elkhorn and Strawberry
Roads), several weeks ago it was mostly Black-necked Stilts. For
the last couple of weeks it's been almost entirely a group of
American Avocets (Recurvirostra
americana). Five months ago it was Red-necked
Phalaropes. Always something new in the slough.
