2/9/2004:
This Striped Skunk (Mephitis
mephitis) was out foraging in mid-afternoon (they are
usually nocturnal feeders). It certainly behaved as if it knew
it was a skunk, showing complete indifference to the photographer
standing ten feet away. The water drops in its fur are from the
tall, rain-dampened grass in which it was hunting.
