Spring Surprise

5/3/2004: A few scattered patches of a locally rare wildflower species, aptly named Flatface Calicoflower (Downingia pulchella), have just been discovered on the Catellus property (map) near Moro Cojo. This elegant little flower typically grows in vernal pools, mudflats, and roadside ditches. Its reappearance on this property has caused some excitement among local botanists.
