Chorus of Frogs

photos by Greg Hofmann

8/9/2004: They used to be called tree frogs (though they are seldom found in trees). Now they're called Chorus Frogs (Pseudacris regilla"pseudacris" means "false grasshopper"). By any name, these little frogs (the ones pictured here were about 5/8ths of an inch long) were hanging out on the leaves of the bur-reeds (Sparganium eurycarpum) in Cattail Swale. They vary a good deal in color, as you can see. The one at lower left has found a coloration that provides particularly effective camoflage on that particular leaf.
