Photographer’s Day Book
photos by Greg Hofmann

August 25, 2004 – new camera!

Major breakthrough! The photographer of Photographer's Day Book just got a new, killer digital camera (Nikon D70) and 80-400mm zoom lens. The photos on this page are the product of two hours of touring the slough. First, a best-ever shot of a Black-necked Stilt.

As usual, Brown Pelicans were cruising the North Marsh.

Lately we've been fortunate in having both flavors of pelicans in the slough.

This is certainly the closest look at a Chestnut-backed Chickadee we've seen
on this website.

And August continues to be a great month for dragonflies.

A Black-crowned Night Heron hangs out in in the slough's signature plant, pickleweed..

Finally, the Elkhorn Slough Foundation's emblematic bird, a Great Egret. The bird had been preening itself, and still has a feather in its bill.

These photos indicate not only the better quality of pictures that will be featured in these pages henceforth, but also the incredible riches available in a single visit to the slough.
