Brush with Life

photos by Greg Hofmann

9/20/2004: Coyote brush (Baccharis pilularis) takes its own sweet time in bringing forth its flowers – here it is mid-September, and many of these plants are in full bloom. Coyote brush is dioecious, meaning it produces both male and female flowers on different plants, as we see here – the roundish yellow male flowers are at left, the paintbrush-like white female flowers are at right.
