February 2, 2005

It's that time of year again, which means the uplands of the slough are once again festooned with festive fungi. Here we see a Fluted Black Elvin Saddle.

A pair of Rufous Candy Caps.

No idea what this one is, but they all had those little "griddlecakes" on top.

Fungus on fungus: this looks like an Elfin Saddle that has been overgrown with a white fungus.

This bed of moss seems to have lichen fruiting bodies intermingled. Quite the little forest.

And, lest we miss the trees for the fungi, it's always a good idea to look up every once in a while. Click here to see this awesome oak at a size more befitting its splendor.
