A member of the Lily family, Sessile Trillium (Trillium
chloropetalum var. giganteum "sessile"
means the flowers are stalkless) is already in bloom on the Reserve.
Peterson's Field Guide to Wildflowers says the flowering
season is April-June. Perhaps the mild winter of the central coast
has fooled the plant (also called "toadshade" and "giant
wakerobin") into early bloom. Click here
for a closer look at a single flower in a new window.
