February 17, 2005 – birds behaving, nicely

Down by Jetty Road, a Long-billed Curlew takes five to fluff out its feathers.

It's certainly got the bill for some serious preening.

And a good set of pipes to go with it.

Meanwhile, back at the Reserve, a Chestnut-backed chickadee....

...goes gleaning in the oak branches....

...in search of insects....

...while an Anna's Hummer makes its presence known with a bit of song.

The red coloration of the head and throat is produced by iridescence –
now you see it, now you don't.

Big finish! – a final flurry of feathers.
