3/7/2005: Surf Scoters (Melanitta perspicillata) are frequent visitors to the mouth of the slough just now. This male, cruising Moss Landing Harbor, shows us the black circular marking on the bill that gives this species its Latin name, which translates as "little black eyeglasses."
