March 16, 2005 - get thee to the rookery

Once again the big birds are arriving at the rookery, and, as usual, the first to arrive are the Great Blue Herons. They usually pick the highest nests in the trees. The next few months will be prime viewing time.

Bring your camera – the birds are happy to pose.

The Great Egrets are arriving too, but today we'll concentrate on the herons.

...which, along with nest building, are also doing mating displays.
