This charming little native flower is Seaside Heliotrope (Heliotropium
curassavicum also called Salt Heliotrope). The
Peterson guide says it prefers sandy shores, beaches, and marsh
edges. Nonetheless, a nice patch can be found on the Reserve rather
far from water it's on the south side of the trail leading
down from the overlook, opposite the small barn. For you native
plant gardeners, Seaside Heliotrope is said to be a butterfly
magnet. |
