November 1, 2005 – a few slough views

You don't need to see critters to enjoy a slough visit. As the sun gets lower in the sky at the end of the year, the slanting rays produce richer colors, as here at Hudson's Landing on a recent morning.

Here's a tidal creek in the Estrada Marsh (east of Kirby Park) – a creek that was once a farm road.

The local oak understory always offers visual riches.

Bleaching eucalyptus snags add interest to these winding levees by Hummingbird Island.

A typical crew of waders on the shore of the main channel; classic Central Coast hills complete the scene.

OK, we won't go entirely critterless – here's another case of "megabirds" in the North Marsh (click here to see a more inclusive view of the mob).

The following day, the crowd has moved north a bit.
