Elkhorn Slough Best Shot Photography Contest

April 2013

"Got ya!" © Mike Kelly

April's winning photo is by Mike Kelly.

"I take pictures from my sea kayak with extra caution directed toward keeping my camera equipment safe and dry. I saw the pelican diving for a fish and got a lucky shot as the bird's body would have entered with a splash less than a half second later.  The picture was taken just East of Seal Point."

My camera is a Canon EOS 40D with a Canon EF 100-400 IS zoom lenses(UV filter).  The picture was taken at f7.1, 1/1250 sec.  ISO 400 at 210 mm.

"I am retired.  I love paddling my kayak at Elkhorn slough and viewing the variety of wildlife there.  The bonus is occasionally capturing an image with my camera and being able to share it with family and friends.  I consider my skill level somewhere between an amateur and professional."
