Katie engages community members in the Elkhorn Slough Foundation’s work to conserve and restore the slough and its watershed. She finds that sharing incredible environments such as Elkhorn Slough with others is the best way for her to affect positive change for animals and wild places. Before working with ESF Katie helped create a documentary film about a resident sea otter in Elkhorn Slough called Otter 501, promoted ocean-friendly seafood choices with the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program, and is currently a part-time surf instructor and adventurer. Katie is originally from Wisconsin where she received degrees in Zoology and Conservation from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and learned a deep love for both wilderness and healthy working landscapes.
