This map of the Elkhorn Slough Watershed tells a story.  The story starts in the 1970s with a group of concerned neighbors and scientists who recognized the importance of this area and had the early insight to do something.  The Reserve was established by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in 1979. The Elkhorn Slough Foundation was established in 1983 first with a mission of education and evolving into a land trust by 1998.

Each property has a story and a reason for it’s protection.  We are piecing these 30+ years of stories together for you. We start with our most-recent property – Sand Hill Farm.
