Shorebird and Waterfowl Monitoring
Around
Elkhorn Slough

ESNERR docent Sue Shaw has quantified shorebirds and waterfowl at 24 stations around Elkhorn Slough in conjunction with her work on the volunteer water quality monitoring program. This data has been collected since 1989.
The data show that the diversity and abundance of shorebirds and waterfowl have remained relatively stable over the last decade. In addition, the 24 stations differ significantly in the relative abundance and occurance of species creating characteristic bird faunas.
