Host-Parasite Relationships:
Pickleweed and Dodder

Marsh dodder is a yellow filamentous plant which is typically found as a parasite on pickleweed (pictured below). K. Wasson, A. Woolfolk, N. D'Amore, K. Hayes, A. Morrow, and S. Fork are attempting to develop methods for transplanting marsh dodder.
Currently, we are exploring a variety of new greenhouse and field methods. If we can develop a successful transplant method, we will carry out an experiment to determine how host-parasite dynamics change under different nutrient conditions of the host. Nutrient levels of pickleweed are being experimentally manipulated by researchers studying marsh nutrient dynamics.
