Beginning Monday, February 5, through the end of the burn season, April 30, the Elkhorn Slough Reserve will be conducting small pile burns. These pile burns will take place within the Reserve in the area of Hummingbird Island and Five Fingers Trail. Those sites and trails will be closed during burn hours.
This project is being conducted with permits from North Monterey County Fire Department and in accordance with a Smoke Management Permit from Monterey Bay Air Resources District. These controlled burns will be performed during daylight hours and extinguished by dusk on permissive burn days.
Nearby residents and visitors to the Reserve may see smoke.
