TWP Restoration Projects: Modeling Alternatives

Evaluating Tidal Hydraulics, Geomorphic Change, and Estuarine Habitats for different Restoration Alternatives

A Modeling Advisory Team (MAT) was created to assist the Elkhorn Slough Tidal Wetland Project teams in overseeing consulting efforts to evaluate the hydrodynamic, geomorphic, and ecosystem responses to a suite of large-scale restoration alternatives compared with a “no-action” alternative.  In November 2006, a consulting team headed by Philip Williams and Associates, Ltd. (PWA), was hired. Specifically, the alternatives being evaluated include:

Option 1:            No Action
Option 2:            Replicate historic conditions of the estuarine mouth
Option 3:            Decrease the size of the estuary’s opening under Highway 1
Option 4:            Decrease the tidal prism by muting Parsons Slough
Option 5:            New alternative developed by PWA

Schedule of Deliverables

Literature Review Memorandum: The first task in PWA’s scope of work was to complete a literature review of restoration projects conducted in the U.S. and abroad that are similar in scope to potential restoration options for Elkhorn Slough.
