Elkhorn Slough Tidal Wetland Project (TWP) – July 2007 Update
1) Thank You and Welcome to our New TWP Team Members
We wanted to publicly say “Thank You!” to all of our TWP team members who have contributed hundreds of hours, not to mention all the mental effort, to help move the TWP project forward during the past 3 years! We would also like to welcome our newest team members (listed below) to the Tidal Wetland Project team who will help us navigate the complex permitting and ecological aspects of our restoration projects.
Ken Gray, California State Parks
John Krause, California Department of Fish and Game
Katie Morange, California Coastal Commission
Peter von Langen, Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Coast
Lisa Windham, U.S. Geological Survey
2) TWP Website Updates
Our Elkhorn Slough staff, Kim Merin and Lisa Zaretsky worked diligently these past months updating our Tidal Wetland Project web pages. Note the new navigation bar link entitled “restoration projects” that takes you to information highlighting our restoration planning projects and provides timelines for all the future activities http://www.elkhornslough.org/tidalwetland/restorationprojects.htm.
3) Did you know…Tidal Wetland Glossary
A tidal wetland glossary was created as part of the Elkhorn Slough Tidal Wetland Strategic Plan. Impress your friends and colleagues by learning the definitions to words such as hypoxia, ecotone, or LIDAR (http://www.elkhornslough.org/tidalwetland/ESTWP/ESTWP_PLAN_glossary.pdf).
4) A call for all information about Parsons Slough/South Marsh
Our TWP Strategic Planning Team and Science Panel have been helping us build a database summarizing all the baseline information for the Parsons Slough area. The better we understand past and present conditions, the more able we are to create a sound restoration plan. If you have any data, old photos, stories, or insights about this area of Elkhorn Slough (http://www.elkhornslough.org/tidalwetland/twmap06.htm), please contact me.
The Tidal Wetland Project’s monthly email is sent out during the middle of each month and is intended to keep community members, local organizations, policy-makers, and other stakeholders up-to-date about current activities and ways to get involved with the Tidal Wetland Project. If you have any questions about items in this email or if you have suggestions of items you would like to see in future emails, please let us know! If you do not wish to receive these emails in the future, or if you only want to receive e-mail updates about upcoming Forums and events, please reply to this email to notify us. For general information about the Elkhorn Slough Tidal Wetland Project, go to http://www.elkhornslough.org/tidalwetlandproject.
Kind Regards,
Barb Peichel, Tidal Wetland Project Coordinator
