Elkhorn Slough Tidal Wetland Project (TWP) – August 2007 Update
1) June 14th Tidal Wetland Project presentations and meeting notes posted
If you want to find out more about how we are evaluating our potential large-scale restoration projects at Elkhorn Slough, download our June 14th Tidal Wetland Project presentations at http://www.elkhornslough.org/tidalwetland/science.htm#061407. The presentations highlight how we will compare different restoration projects by predicting potential changes to tides, sediments, habitats, water quality, and human uses of Elkhorn Slough.
2) Tidal Wetland Project Coordinator leaving…
From Barb Peichel, Tidal Wetland Project Coordinator:
I have taken a position back in the Midwest (to be closer to family) so will be leaving Elkhorn Slough. I will miss each and every one of you that makes up part of this great community of folks passionate about the Elkhorn Slough estuary and interested in conservation and restoration activities. My hope is that you will all continue to be involved with TWP and give the new coordinator the same warm welcome you gave me when I started here 3.5 years.
3) Please help advertise Tidal Wetland Project Director position!
We are looking to hire a new Elkhorn Slough Tidal Wetland Project Director for Elkhorn Slough. The job announcement is now posted on the web at http://www.elkhornslough.org/jobs/twp_director.htm. Please publicize this position announcement through your networks to help us search for qualified candidates. An initial review of applications for this position will begin on September 7, 2007.
4) TWP Transition Team
From Becky Christensen, Elkhorn Slough Reserve Manager, and Mark Silberstein, Elkhorn Slough Foundation Director:
As you now know, Barb Peichel will be returning to her Midwest roots. We are sad to lose such a capable and tireless staffer. Barb leaves us in good stead though with the process and products well organized and tremendous accomplishments. Barb is working with us to ensure a smooth transition to the next coordinator. Please join us in wishing Barb the very best in her new endeavors. During this transition of hiring a new coordinator, the TWP duties will be shared by: Becky Christensen and Mark Silberstein for funding and hiring aspects, Andrea Woolfolk for Parsons Slough restoration planning, and Kerstin Wasson for research. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or ideas for candidates.
The Tidal Wetland Project’s monthly email is sent out during the middle of each month and is intended to keep community members, local organizations, policy-makers, and other stakeholders up-to-date about current activities and ways to get involved with the Tidal Wetland Project. If you have any questions about items in this email or if you have suggestions of items you would like to see in future emails, please let us know!
