Why is Kirby Park Closed?

In by Administrator

The winter took a hard toll on Kirby Park’s culvert system.  Underneath the road leading to the parking lot, a major culvert has been damaged weakening the road.  For safety reasons that road cannot sustain traffic and so the park is closed until further notice.  Although the Elkhorn Slough Foundation cares for the trail and the boardwalk, we do not own or maintain the road and parking lot.

Kirby Park is managed by the Moss Landing Harbor District.  The road is managed by Monterey County. As of June 21, 2017 Monterey County has not provided any information as to when the road leading to Kirby Park will be fixed.

For road updates you can visit Monterey County’s Road Closure Information Page.
