The Visitor
Center lies at the heart of the Reserves programs.
It features outstanding educational exhibits that invite
visitors of all ages to take a closer look at the unseen
world of the slough. The Center is staffed by knowledgeable
naturalists who are happy to answer your questions. |

Entrance
Fee and Hours
The
Reserve and Visitor Center are open Wednesday - Sunday, 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m.
Admission
is free to the Visitor Center and picnic areas.
To walk the trails
there is a $2.50 day-use fee (cash or check, no credit
cards) for adults 16 and older; children are free; entry is also
free with a California hunting or fishing license. A one-year
pass is available for $15.
Reminder: Pets and bikes are NOT allowed on any of the Reserve trails.

The Unseen
Slough
The
Visitor Center has a number of interesting and creative exhibits
including a nine-times larger than life size model of life in
the mud, complete with a four-foot fat innkeeper worm. There is
a colorful display of live plants that are in bloom right now
at the Reserve. The Bookstore
is loaded with natural history books and gifts for all ages.

Degree View of the Visitor Center
The Unseen Slough
exhibit was honored by the National Association for Interpretation
with a first place award as Best Interior Exhibit. Exhibit development
was a cooperative effort with funding from the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration, the Department of Fish & Game,
The California Wildlife Foundation, local corporations, private
donors, and members of the Elkhorn Slough Foundation. Congratulations
one and all for this award-winning creation.

Features
Did you forget
your binoculars?
The
Visitor Center can loan binoculars to you at no charge.
They also have bird books for loan.
Docent-led
Tours
Volunteer interpretive guides lead nature walks every
Saturday and Sunday, leaving at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
There is a special Early Bird walk the first Saturday of
the month at 8:30 a.m.
