2009 Volunteer Training Class
September 2 - October 31
Wednesdays 7-9:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve invites you to participate in the 2009 Volunteer Training Class. Share in the wealth of Elkhorn Slough and look beyond the eye's view. Explore large concepts, hidden treasures, and revel in the stories of the seen and unseen Slough. Join the hundreds of dedicated volunteers who learn about this rare and beautiful coastal wetland, enjoy its recreational opportunities by teaching others, and help to protect the natural resources.
Participants in the training will hike trails, bird watch, engage in hands-on activities, participate in thought-provoking and informative lectures, and dig into the mud among other tasks as they learn about Elkhorn Slough's history, wildlife, research, restoration and education programs.
Volunteers are asked to commit 100 hours their first year after training. Volunteers serve as gateway interpreters, tour guides, research project assistants, educational lab assistants, wildlife monitors, habitat restorers, special event planners, maintenance assistants, ambassadors, and much more.
There is a $50.00 fee for each person attending this 10 week training class. This fee helps to support the ESNERR Volunteer Program and makes this class possible. Some scholarships are available.
